Welcome to the Los Angeles Chapter of Amigos de las Americas! AMIGOS is an international,volunteer-based, non-profit organization whose mission is to advance community development, empower young leaders and strengthen multi-cultural understanding within the Americas. If you are looking for an incredible summer service adventure, look no further! AMIGOS was founded in 1965 and has since grown to include more than 24 Training Chapters throughout the United States. One of those chapters is right here in Los Angeles, and we invite you to learn more about our programs! Every summer, approximately 700 volunteers aged 16-21 travel to one of nine Latin American countries for a four to eight week period during the summer. Living with host families and working in small groups of 2-4 volunteers per community, the students collaborate with established organizations to help reinforce their public health and youth development programs. Volunteers also have the opportunity to develop their own programs with the community! AMIGOS believes in the power of young adults to change our world for the better. If you will be 16 years old by September 1, 2007 and have the equivalent of 2 years of high school Spanish, you can be an AMIGO! Join us for the adventure of a lifetime! |
